I had the opposite experience. From the start of the second year we were basically left to our own devices as the staff hid away in their ancient or modernist studios (depending on their specialisms/interests) jealously guarding their time for their ‘own work’

‘Teaching’ was non-existent. I taught myself. I came away with a 2:1 and the ability to sharpen pencils with a Stanley knife.

      ha ha ha ha…
I know exactly what you mean…but my first 3 years in a South African college were the opposite. they stood over you like policemen and it was 9-4 everyday with homework to last you all night.
In a way I am pleased because even if you couldnt draw when you started, you jolly well could when you left..
Here in the UK, I did a HND in fine art and I pretty much had the studio to myself for 2 years. Also, there was suddenly all this writing….critical analysis and stuff. I got though it eventually. I should have gone on to manchester met, but I ran out of funds.
Did you know you can sell your prints on Deviantart.com? I put some stuff on , and on the Saatchi website, but its so long now I don’t know if I can remember the passwords etc..
